The Falesia di Configni: climbing within everyone’s reach on the slopes of Monte Cosce in Sabina
On the eastern slopes of Monte Cosce, just a few minutes from the village, the Falesia di Configni is a rock face equipped for sport climbing in the heart of Sabina. The rock, shaped by the elements over time, offers a remarkable variety of structures and routes, including some specifically designed for children. It is a truly versatile place.
Sixty routes with slabs and overhangs
The site features around sixty routes, with grades ranging from 4 to 7c. The face is divided into six sectors — from Slab A to Slab E, with the Placca Rossa (Red Slab) in between — and the rock has something for everyone: slabs, pockets, small crimps for the fingers and overhanging sections. All routes have recently been re-bolted, and can be climbed with 70-metre ropes.
The approach, and an insider tip
Reaching the crag is straightforward and quick. Its base is flat and sits beneath tall trees, making it comfortable even for families with children. One important detail: the face goes into the shade from early afternoon. And after climbing, we recommend stopping at the nearby village and the Osteria della Cuccagna for a well-deserved snack.
The crag is located to the north of the built-up area of Configni, a few minutes from Piazza XX Settembre. For further information, it is advisable to contact the municipality directly.
