Street art in Selci: the Sabine village of 1,000 inhabitants turned into an open-air gallery
Selci is a village in the Rieti area founded in the 10th century, with about 1,000 inhabitants and “talking walls”. For several years now, urban art has taken over the façades of houses thanks to the PUBBLICA project, turning this corner of Sabina into something unexpected — a village where every turn reveals a mural.
When an association repaints a village
PUBBLICA is an art residency curated by the Kill the Pig association, with the patronage of MIBACT. The idea is simple: invite Italian and international street artists to work directly in the village, exploring the relationship between communal spaces and urban art.
From Via Roma to the parking lot
Starting from Via Roma, on the façade of a building you'll find a work by Luis Gomez de Teran: a larger-than-life portrait of a woman "with tired eyes," a face reminiscent of the movie stars of the past. A little further on, Emmeu has created a large geometric mural in contrasting colors. In a parking lot, an old power substation became the canvas for four works by Emmeu, Marcy, Diamond, and Solo — all depicting the female face, somewhere on the spectrum between pop and surreal.
Fantastic figures across streets and façades
Argentine artist Fio Silva painted leaves and dinosaurs on the pavement of the town arena, and decorated the façade of the junior school. On Via Tenerello, Diego Ritmo's long mural is bursting with fantastical characters drawn on a black background.
