G. Bassani Urban Park

Overview

The Urban Park is named after the writer Giorgio Bassani and includes an area of 1,200 hectares north of the city, which forms "the Green Addition"

The Giorgio Bassani Urban Park has been conceived and built, since its design, as a work of renaturalisation of a boundary space between the urban, agricultural and river areas.

In more than twenty years, a unique and precious biological balance has been created, a complex ecosystem that now, at the height of its maturity, constitutes a single large living organism.

In the Park, between trees, ponds and canals, migratory and permanent birds, wild animals and freshwater fish find refuge and protection.
In the immediate vicinity, there are the local offices and shelters of the LIPU [Italian League for the Protection of Birds], the Lega del Cane, the municipal cat rescue and the municipal dog pound.

The part of the park most recently built makes it the largest green area outside the city walls, laid out with equipment, bicycle paths, a pond and large, grassy areas. In the period between July and August, it hosts the High Foundation musical event, and in September, the Ferrara Balloons Festival event.
