Campagna

Overview

Campagna has ancient origins and has historically played a dominant role in the Sele plain, as demonstrated by the presence of fine religious buildings and noble palaces in the historic centre.

The landscape of the Picentini Mountains surrounding the village is rich in forests and scenic paths, and ideal for walking in the open air. There are no fewer than three protected natural oases: TheHermitage of San Michele, a historical path that takes visitors up to the peaks of Monte Nero. The WWF Oasis of Persano, which runs along the left bank of the Sele river, with paths from which you can admire the spectacle of aquatic plants and local fauna. Finally, the WWF Oasis of Monte Polveracchio, with various observation points and everything you need for picnics and hiking. But Campagna has also become famous for "A Chiena", a special folkloric event consisting of the partial deviation of the course of the Tenza river. The city streets are literally flooded with water and the event is thus transformed into a moment of goliardia in which water balloons, games and water jokes take place.
