Pescocostanzo

Overview

With its beautiful houses and Renaissance palaces, rocky outcrops and the remains of an ancient settlement, Pescocostanzo, in the province of Aquila, overlooks the meadows of the Quarto Grande plateau from the slopes of Mount Calvario. The town is still home to ancient craft skills, expressed in the traditional activities of filigree, wrought iron, wood carving and lace; do not miss the Lace Museum in Tombolo.

The village is an ideal base for outdoor holidays and skiing. Within the Maiella Park, you can climb up to the nature reserves of Quarto Santa Chiara and Bosco San Antonio, with their spectacular beech forests. For mountaineers, the ambition is to conquer the summit of Mount Amaro, which at 2793 metres is the highest point of the massif. It can also be reached on skis from Caramanico Terme or Lama dei Peligni.
