Overview
This is a small village on the south-eastern slopes of the Gran Sasso d'Italia massif, whose name means 'Samson's Rock', in reference to the nobleman who owned it in the 10th century. Next to the rocky spur, from which the Riparossa spring flows, is the Sanctuary of San Nunzio, which is part of the Way of St. Thomas. The sanctuary was built in the place where the saint, suffering from tuberculosis, cured the wounds that afflicted him with water from the spring. It can be an ideal destination for free climbing enthusiasts, who can find numerous climbing routes here starting from the Peschio cave.
