Pereto

Overview

Pereto observes the valley below from the spur of the rock on which it stands, like an ancient guardian watching over its kingdom. All around, rocks dominate the territory, alternating with green oak, oak and beech woods, softening the landscape. Its territory has always been a passage and border area, so much so that it has earned the name 'Porta d'Abruzzo' (Gateway to Abruzzo). The ancient village is dominated by the building that is its symbol and history: the medieval castle, built as we see it today by Frederick II of Swabia. With its donjon, guard towers and entrance gates, it takes us back to medieval atmospheres, among duels and spells, battles and legends. As if time had never passed, on certain winter evenings you can still hear the hooves of horses climbing towards the fortress...
