The beauty of the mountains all year round
With its slopes on the Aremogna mountain plateau, Roccaraso, in the province of L’Aquila, Abruzzo, is the most renowned ski resort in central southern Italy.
A range of sports are available. In winter, you can ski on the slopes of the 110-kilometre-long Aremogna - Pizzalto - Monte Pratello - Rivisondoli circuit, with thirty modern lift facilities. There are also cross-country skiing, snowboarding and ski touring trails and a well-equipped ice rink. In summer, the trails turn into perfect trekking routes to reconnect with nature, not forgetting rafting, mountain biking and more.
Roccaraso is a paradise for visitors who want to treat themselves to some relaxation at the many wellness centres, with plenty of accommodation in the town.
If you appreciate architecture and religious art, you will love the historic centre of Roccaraso. We recommend visiting the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta in front of the old Rocca di Roccaraso castle tower, used in the 19th century as a clock tower. The Church of San Bernardino is another famous must-see architectural marvel in Abruzzo.
Want to dive into the atmospheres of times gone by? During Christmas and on certain days, you can take the historic train of the famous Italian Trans-Siberian railway to Roccaraso, departing from Sulmona.
