As you walk along the olive terraces, step by step you descend into the valley.

The route, of about 13 km, is characterised by the presence of numerous votive shrines at the crossroads, which seem to guide the pilgrim towards Assisi. This stretch is straightforward. It is only in the last section before Foligno that you walk along a busy road, so take care.

The big day of arrival in Assisi is drawing ever closer.

Leaving the historic centre of Trevi and the Convent of St Martin, you start walking downhill, on a path that leads towards the village of Collecchio. You continue walking along the olive terraces, and step by step you descend into the valley.

The route through the countryside alternates between asphalt paths and dirt roads, but is always in the sun (remember your hat and a supply of water). You continue on a slight descent, passing some beautiful Marian shrines, a characteristic feature of the Umbrian countryside.

In San Clemente, you will encounter a rural parish church, located on a hill covered with olive trees. It is an inviting spot and the perfect place to take a break.

Before long, you reach Porta Romana and the historic centre of Foligno. Walking along the elegant Corso Cavour, you reach the famous square with the Cathedral of St Felician. There is a plaque to remember that this is where Francis, still a merchant, sold his father's fabrics to restore the Church of St Damian
