Tappa 11: Spoleto - Poreta

An easy stage of about 15 km.

This leg takes you through the Spoleto countryside, dominated by the expanses of olive trees that completely cover the hills.

There are a few steep uphill sections, but the effort is repaid by the beautiful views of the landscape. Initially, this is an easy stage, but there are some steep sections.

The route starts at Spoleto Cathedral and leads out of the historic centre along Via delle Mura Ciclopiche. On the first stretch, with a short detour, we recommend a visit to the Basilica of St Saviour, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as an outstanding example of art from the Longobard period.  

The trail continues on oak-lined minor roads, leaving the city traffic behind and heading towards the countryside.

Here, the landscape changes. From the wooded mountains of the Valnerina you walk on the flat, alongside the hillside planted with olive trees, from which you can see Trevi and Assisi. On the opposite side, there is a view of the Martani Mountains and the town of Montefalco. The ascent begins to reach the villages of Eggi and Bazzano, Inferiore and Superiore, where tables and benches invite you to take a refreshing break.

The descent takes you through fields and meadows, and following the signs you skirt a large forest of Aleppo pines. This is a pleasant walk along an undemanding path, with the bell tower of the church of Poreta in the distance.

When you reach the asphalt road, take care: the signs indicate that you should go up to the right to Poreta Castle, which is worth a visit for the splendid view. Alternatively, ignoring the signs, you can turn left and head downhill towards the bell tower, and you will soon reach the lower part of Poreta
