The Assisi-Spoleto-Cascata delle Marmore Cycle Path has been created by joining together three cycling routes. It crosses the eastern part of Umbria amidst beautiful countryside, waterways and ancient villages. It joins together the Assisi Bevagna Spoleto Cycle Path, the Spoleto Norcia Cycle Path and the River Nera Cycle Path.
Much of the route is flat and runs on roads with low traffic, allowing you to quietly explore the beauty of the area.

Day 1

From Assisi to Spoleto

The first section starts in the heart of Assisi, a city of peace that has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site due to the presence of the Basilica of St Francis and other Franciscan sites.

The itinerary will allow you to immerse yourself in the Franciscan atmosphere, visiting the Church of San Nicolò and the Church of Rivotorto, the sanctuary that houses the remains of the 'hovel', the first shelter used by the saint and his companions.

Continue on to the centre of Cannara, where you can admire the town museum and the remains of the ancient Roman municipality of Urvinum Hortense. You will then come to the village of Bevagna. Cycle around the ancient walls and along the cycle path to Spoleto, home of the famous Festival dei Due Mondi.

Day 2

From Spoleto to the Cascata delle Marmore

Take the former Spoleto-Norcia railway: the upgraded track is an ideal greenway for walkers and cyclists with unpaved sections along the track, viaducts and unlit tunnels, but it is still not entirely passable.

Climb up to Sant'Anatolia di Narco, dominated by its late-medieval castle. From here, the cycle path follows the route of the Via di Francesco, skirting the River Nera.

Along the way, don't miss Scheggino, where the tranquillity of nature makes it seem like a fairytale village, and the Fonti di Valcasana, a large natural garden with crystal-clear water springs. Stop off at Ferentillo; you will be struck by the beauty of its two fortresses and the Museum of Mummies

The cycle path ends in front of the Marmore Falls, one of the most famous in Italy and among the highest in Europe.
