Sant'Agata di Militello

Overview

The origins of Sant'Agata di Militello are linked to a legend: it is said that a group of fishermen from Catania saved themselves from a shipwreck and, to thank their patron saint, they founded this town and dedicated its name to her. The castle, a fortified building with imposing and severe architecture, dominates the town and the sea it overlooks. Centuries ago, a settlement of fishermen and farmers formed around it, and since then this town has always been linked to the sea and the land. In particular, the port of S. Agata is one of the most important on the island, a place of arrivals and departures, of voyages that retain the flavour of ancient seafaring routes. And finally, not to be missed is an evening stroll along the seafront, to relax listening to the sound of the waves and admiring the reflections of the lights on the water.
