Autumn in Barbagia and the most authentic Sardinia

Sardinia is a perfect destination 365 days a year, and far more than the white beaches and crystal-clear sea of July and August.

In autumn, for example, Sardinia becomes a place to visit without hesitation: the mild temperatures still let you enjoy abundant sea life and the region offers numerous cultural opportunities throughout its territory.

The occasion is made perfect thanks to Autumn in Barbagia, an abundant festival organised by the Nuoro Chamber of Commerce and its special company Aspen. The event offers a journey through traditions and culture to promote the province, its excellences and breathtaking landscapes, through the involvement of an increasing number of villages characteristic of the area.

This glorious festival features numerous events spread throughout the autumn calendar, from September to mid-December, to entertain the 550,000 visitors and more for as long as possible.

Ancient crafts and knowledge, long traditions, products of excellence and a wealth of food and wine are transformed into opportunities for culture, enjoyment and immersion in the region, with constant focus on sustainability.

The dates and stages are available in the Autumn in Barbagia 2023 programme.

Barbagia, a magical region that shines even brighter in autumn

barbagia magical territory

Autumn in Barbagia is not just the name of the event, but also a promise of unforgettable memories. The heart of Sardinia, an extensive region contained between the slopes of the Gennargentu mountain massif and some smaller elevations.

The entire Barbagia area, with its ancient history, is actually composed of various historical regions: the Barbagias of Belvì, Bitti, Nuoro, Ollolai and Seulo, and the Mandrolisai area. The curious and lovers of beauty will instantly fall in love with this Sardinian reality, characterised by cortes (open courtyards), narrow alleyways, granite houses, murals portraying local history and typical flavours of great character.

There's not just exploration, but also outdoor activities for all seasons: in particular the Supramonte, a vast limestone-dolomite mountain complex, which provides evocative scenarios for those who want to go walking among the white rocks and lush, green vegetation.
The renowned villages of Barbagia, with their ancient and almost magical charm, are also worth a long trip, while sea lovers will be enchanted by Cala Luna, a true natural monument composed of a stretch of fine sand lapped by a crystal-clear sea between steep rocky walls. Don't miss the chance to explore the numerous caves found along the shore, which are true wonders of nature.

Autumn in Barbagia, an event not to be missed

Autumn in Barbagia is a regular event that allows each local community to turn the spotlight on their own village and present its traditions, culture and food and wine specialities. It also helps attract informed, sustainable tourism that appreciates the local reality: 0-kilometre products, available according to the season and with respect for the land, are offered and used in a unique way, in a narrative that creates a direct link between producers and consumers, with benefits for all.

An unmissable opportunity to let yourself be tempted by new itineraries and captivated by the autumn colours, and to discover historical roots of unparalleled charm.
Crafts, food and wine, shopping opportunities, workshops, exhibitions and musical performances will entertain young and old alike at a magical time of year leading up to winter. Autumn in Barbagia is a great idea!
