Overview
Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club
A significant fortified center located in the heart of the Ossola Valley, Vogogna is an integral part of and the headquarters for the Val Grande National Park.
In the small medieval central square, you can visit the Palazzo Pretorio from the 14th century, which houses the Celtic Mascherone; a short distance away is the Church of Santa Marta, dating back to the 16th century, an ancient place of prayer for the militia of the fortress. From the Visconti Castle, now a venue for events and festivals, you can admire the remains of the fortress, another point of defense for the valley. Descending from the castle, you will come across the imposing Parish Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and nearby, the former Church of Ss. James and Christopher, with its richly carved 16th-century portal.
Don't miss out on tasting the flavorful Ossola cheese paired with local wines.
Among the events, Montagna e Dintorni and the Living Nativity Scene are worth noting.
