Cannero Riviera

Overview

Cannero Riviera is a bustling resort on Lake Maggiore, with a mild climate in all seasons and rich Mediterranean vegetation. From the lakeshore, you can see the Cannero castles, ruins of an ancient fortress, located on two rocky islets and accessible only by boat. In the upper part of the town, the Parish Church of San Giorgio and the Piazzetta degli Affreschi, an impressive meeting place where colourful murals illustrate episodes from local history.

The best way to get to know the village is to stroll through the narrow streets of the old town and along the lakeside promenade, which is lined with elegant residences and a number of restaurants offering traditional lake cuisine.

Typical of the region: citrus fruits, cultivated for centuries in the open land in the northernmost part of Italy, thanks to the favourable climate of the territory. A unique landscape, to which the exhibition, "The citrus fruits of Cannero Riviera" is dedicated, set up to revitalise the ancient tradition, held every year in March, with the exhibition of lemons, oranges, mandarins, grapefruits, pummeli, cedars, chinotti, clementines, bergamot and much more, pays tribute to the heritage of the territory.

There is also a Citrus Tree Park, where visitors can stroll through the rows of citrus trees, in a host of varieties, and get closer to the world of citrus growing through explanatory panels and botanical sheets available at the Citrus Fruit Cottage.
