Tavoleto

Overview

A pretty centre of mediaeval foundation, the village of Tavoleto stands on the edge of a steep hill near the River Foglia and is surrounded by an impressive hilly landscape. The village and its territory initially belonged to the Malatesta family but became, during the 15th century, the object of contention between this family and the Montefeltro family. However, there is another moment in history that is still evident in Tavoleto's memory: the village is located along the Gothic Line and is home to the war memorial and a stele in memory of the Nepalese soldiers of the British army who, on the night between 3 and 4 September 1944, together with the Sikhs, Baluchis and Camerons, helped to liberate the village from the German siege.
