Overview
The Candele a Candelara festival, now in its 22nd anniversary year, runs from 22 November to 14 December with various dates, including weekends and the long weekend of 8 December.
The event is held in the medieval village around Pesaro, where the artificial lighting is switched off every evening to make way for thousands of lit candles, creating a unique atmosphere. The electric lighting is scheduled to be turned off twice, followed by half an hour of warm, comforting candlelight.
The festival features a Christmas market in the medieval village, shows and entertainment, luminous stilt-walkers, pixie players, jugglers and bagpipers. You can also watch people making beeswax candles and see wrought-iron candle sculptures. For children, there is the Elf Shop with creative workshops and the chance to meet Father Christmas.
The event also offers guided tours of 16th-century Villa Berloni and the Museum of Weaving and Embroidery, where you can discover the traditional texile craft.
In addition, there are over seventy wooden cottages housing handicrafts, gifts and a variety of candles.
