Tirano

Overview

Located on the two banks of the Adda, at the confluence of the Poschiavina Valley in the Valtellina, it is a centre of ancient commercial tradition that preserves the buildings and remains of late fifteenth-century fortifications. In the historic centre, on the left bank of the river can be found the parish church of San Martino, of fifteenth-century origin, the Palazzo d'Oro Lambertenghi (15th–16th century) and the Palazzo Salis. Tirano is, together with Sankt Moritz, one of the two terminuses of the Bernina Red Train, the spectacular railway line that was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.
