Bussana Vecchia

Overview

The Borgo degli Artisti

A short distance from the city of Sanremo is an artistic village that grew out of the ruins of an abandoned medieval town. Welcome to Bussana Vecchia, now a sensational one-of-a-kind destination, an open-air work of art populated by a community of international artists with singular histories. The small municipality is what remains of the violent earthquake that struck the area in 1887, forcing its inhabitants to evacuate. After decades of neglect, it was then rebuilt by a group of craftsmen and artists using the rubble left in the village.

When visiting the area, don't miss the Church of Sant'Egidio, the Vecchia Mulattiera and the Torre dell'Arma. A fixed stop is definitely the cosy Casa La Barca, “everyone's home” where you can sleep, eat and spend time with friends without having to pay anything, in true hippie style. You will enjoy an unrepeatable experience walking through this magical village or riding your bicycle to Poggio and admiring the view of the Ligurian coast. Bussana Vecchia is a small and special world that deserves to be visited and in return you will be amazed.
