Overview
From the Latin "jupponarii": craftsmen and merchants of 'gipponi', or bodice weavers. Via dei Giubbonari takes its name from here, although it was formerly called “Via dei Pelamantelli”, because this was where the carders of wool and rough cloth were located, and then “Via Mercatoria”. This last commercial feature is what still characterises it today: Via dei Giubbonari is in fact an almost uninterrupted row of stores and workshops. Palazzo Barberini ai Giubbonari, also called "Casa Grande Barberini", is of historical significance and dates back to the late 16th century.
