Capo Circeo

Overview

A lighthouse on a promontory

Capo Circeo is located a short distance from the historic centre of San Felice Circeo and is a promontory overlooking the sea that is home to a lighthouse that has illuminated the routes of sailors on this stretch of sea since 1866.

The lighthouse stands on a spot in the promontory sheltered by the wind and is covered with Mediterranean scrub, including agaves and myrtle. It is a place of rare beauty, still wild despite the construction of the lighthouse and the existence of a road dating back to Roman times. Several patrician villas also stood here.

The road to the lighthouse offers a magnificent view of the coastline, and the Pontine Islands can be seen in front of the Cape. On clear days, you can even see the white rock of Palmarola and the cottages of Ponza.

From the car park next to the lighthouse, you can descend to a small viewpointon the cliff along a flight of steps with a footbridge. You can also swim in the clear waters around the headland, populated by colourful fish and lush marine vegetation.
