Overview
The monument, located in Fonte Vetica, in the south-east of Campo Imperatore, is the work of the sculptor Vicentino Michetti. It was 13 October 1919, when a terrible snowstorm overwhelmed shepherd Pupo Nunzio, his two sons and his flock of 5,000 sheep. Michetti's sculptural group depicts them as they struggle forward through the blizzard, while the shepherd's wife holds her arms out in trustful anticipation of her loved ones. The work is a tribute to all the shepherds who dedicated their lives, sometimes losing them, to their hard work.
