Lake Sinizzo

Overview

The beach of the people of L’Aquila

Emerald-green waters encompassed by poetic weeping willows where you can stop to rest surrounded by nature. Lake Sinizzo is one of the most scenic places in Abruzzo, so beloved by locals that it is named “the beach of the people of l’Aquila”.

This shallow, circular basin is ideal for a day of relaxation. It is a short distance from the centre of San Demetrio ne’ Vestini. On the meadows surrounding it, you can spread out a blanket for a picnic. On warmer days, you can walk along the wooden walkway and jump into the water. If you don’t like sitting still, the surroundings of the lake will provide the ideal setting for a walk in the woods, a mountain bike ride or a downhill run.

Don’t miss the Stiffe Caves to admire refreshing waterfalls flowing between stalactites and stalagmites. There are picturesque villages nearby, such as the medieval Navelli, the land of saffron.
