Overview
The Celano Gorges are one of the most extraordinary canyons in the central Apennines, the destination (in spring and summer) for a challenging hiking trip that takes three and a half hours. The formation of the gorges is due to the La Foce stream, which has carved out the rocks between Mount Sirente and Mount Tino for more than 4 km. The stony mantle of the river is crossed by walls sometimes no more than three metres apart, which in the upper part rise by almost 200 metres.
