The pilgrimage retraces the last journey of St Francis, from Assisi to Nocera Umbra, made in the days before the Transit. It runs along shady paths in Mount Subasio Park, amid the tranquil woods and sweeping views of the Tescio Valley, offering an experience of meditation and contemplation. According to the Franciscan Sources, from Bagnara, Francis was accompanied on horseback to Assisi by the delegation sent by the Municipality and the Bishop, to spend the last days of his life. The route passes the Rocca Minore fortress and the vineyards and olive groves of the Subasio, with the possibility of a short detour to the Church of Satriano, where Francis and the horsemen stopped. Beyond the Termine pass, you come to the castle of Postignano, the village of Villa Postignano and then Nocera Umbra, a town the saint passed through several times, and where you can still see the gateway, Porta San Francesco, and the Church of St Francis. Continuing on, you reach the hermitage of La Romita, which hosted Francis in the summer of 1226, the medieval village of Le Cese and, with a short detour, the Le Ferce waterfalls. The stage ends in Bagnara, where Francis sought relief from the climate and the local waters, believed to be beneficial, with the possibility of reaching the nearby Grotta di Sant'Angelo, an ancient sanctuary where he stayed shortly before the Transit.
