"Absolute Landscapes" is the title of the exhibition by artist Roberto Ghezzi at Poppi Castle, in the Casentino area. The exhibition combines contemporary art, scientific observation and direct study of natural environments, and will be open to the public until 31 May 2026.
Ghezzi, born in Cortona and internationally recognised, is known for his "Naturografie" – works created through the direct interaction between natural-fibre surfaces and the ecosystems in which they are placed. In recent years he has worked in diverse contexts ranging from Italy to Nepal, and from Greenland to Patagonia.
For this project, the artist worked in the National Park of the Casentinesi Forests, one of the oldest forested areas in Europe. Between July and September 2025, several canvases were placed in the landscape and left exposed to the effects of time and natural elements. Over the months, the surfaces absorbed sediments, organic material, traces of fauna, microorganisms and the transformations generated by light, humidity and climatic conditions.
The resulting works become visual records of a shared process in which nature and artistic gesture enter into dialogue and merge. Starting from the Monastery of Camaldoli, a circular route leads through the places where the canvases were embraced and transformed by nature: Casa Pucini, Metaleto, the Miraglia Chestnut Tree, Prato al Fiume, before returning via the Hermitage of Camaldoli.
