Gangi

Overview

Gangi is a small treasure chest of history and culture. According to legend, its origins lie in the mythical city of Engyon, founded by the Cretans near the water spring of the same name. Just outside the village, the Sanctuary of the Holy Spirit is definitely worth a visit, also linked to a legend: here a farmer is said to have found a miraculous effigy of the Eternal Father painted on a boulder, now kept in a niche in the building. Returning to the heart of the village, among the alleys and timeless atmospheres, after admiring the Ventimiglia Tower, one arrives at the top of the town and finds the Castle, with its tower symbolising the medieval past. Then there are two palaces to discover: the elegant Palazzo Bongiorno and Palazzo Sgadari, now housing several museums.
