Overview
As you climb the slopes of Monte Gran Costa, you will be almost petrified by the vast ruins of what was once a fortification in the Assietta complex.
Built in 1888-89 to defend targets in the upper Chisone and Dora Riparia Valleys, the fortified complex was guarded by a garrison of two hundred men, who, thanks to batteries for cannons and riflemen, connected by a long, flat, covered road, were able to communicate with the other fortified structures through an optical telegraph.
