Overview
Increasingly popular, and not only with Central European tourists, Mergozzo is a small holiday resort located on the western tip of Lake Mergozzo at the mouth of the Ossola valley in the basin of Lake Maggiore. Its waters are suitable for bathing and are particularly clean. The village is picturesque, with stone houses leaning against each other and reached by narrow alleyways. The white and green granite of Mergozzo are part of the history of Italian architecture (the columns of the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls in Rome came from here, after travelling around Italy for two-years).
