From 22 to 24 May 2026, the historic centre of Cagli, in the hinterland of the province of Pesaro and Urbino, will host Distinti Salumi, an event dedicated to Italian artisanal cured meats, promoted by the City of Cagli in collaboration with Slow Food Italia and Slow Food Marche.
Distinti Salumi was not conceived as a mere gastronomic event, but as a cultural event dedicated to Italian charcuterie and the preservation of artisanal knowledge related to meat processing. The initiative brings together producers, livestock farmers, butchers and experts from various Italian regions to showcase the great variety of Italian cured meats and the value of the traditions that have produced them.
For three days, the town's squares, historic buildings and courtyards will welcome producers of artisanal cured meats, many of whom are members of the Slow Food Presidia and the Mercati della Terra (Markets of the Earth). The programme includes Taste Workshops, guided tastings, talks and in-depth sessions focusing on the culture of charcuterie, processing and curing techniques, and the relationship between food production, the local area and the landscape.
Alongside the producers' market, there will be meetings, conferences and discussions on the topics of sustainable livestock farming, biodiversity and the future of artisanal production chains, as well as gastronomic experiences curated by chefs from the Slow Food Alliance and activities designed to engage families and visitors.
Distinti Salumi also provides an opportunity to discover Cagli, a historic town in the Marche Apennines situated along the ancient Via Flaminia. In this area, which lies at a crossroads between different regions, important traditions related to meat processing and the butchering trade have developed over time, and the event helps to promote and showcase these traditions.
