FabrianoinAcquarello is an international conference/festival dedicated to the art of watercolour on paper, which brings together influencers, masters, artists, illustrators and enthusiasts from all over the world every year. The event brings together artists from around ninety countries and is one of the leading international gatherings dedicated to this painting technique.
The 2026 edition, the seventeenth in a row, opens with a preview in Bologna from 21 to 23 April, where talks, art demonstrations and an exhibition dedicated to young watercolour talents are scheduled at the Teatro Arena del Sole.
The heart of the festival takes place in Fabriano from 24 to 26 April, in the Marche region town renowned worldwide for its historic paper-making tradition. Over these days, exhibitions, workshops, live demonstrations and collective painting sessions will bring the historic centre to life, engaging both artists and the public.
The main venues for the event are the Paper and Watermark Museum, the Palazzo del Podestà and the Conce area, where the International Watercolour Collection will be presented – a major exhibition bringing together works from numerous countries and showcasing the contemporary vitality of watercolour painting. During the festival, the historic centre is transformed into an open-air creative workshop, offering an opportunity to discover the town and its long tradition of papermaking.
After the festival in Fabriano, some of the participating artists will take part in an art tour that will visit various locations in Lazio from 27 April to 1 May, featuring painting sessions and events dedicated to the art of watercolour.
On 1 May, the artists will return to Fabriano, from where a new art tour of the Marche region will set off, continuing until 4 May and visiting various locations across the region.
The international exhibition will remain open to the public until 14 June 2026, offering visitors the opportunity to discover works from all over the world and to learn more about the connection between the art of watercolour painting and Fabriano’s papermaking tradition.
Finally, in November 2026, the FabrianoInAcquarello webinar, broadcast on the YouTube channel, will bring the recordings of the more than 50 performances and talks from FabrianoInAcquarello 2026 to the attention of a vast international audience.
