A canyon of fire in Le Marche
It will seem as if you are on Mars, surrounded by fire-coloured rocks, tall auburn pinnacles soaring into the sky. This striking trekking route will introduce you to one of the most magical places in the Le Marche hinterland, the Lame Rosse di Fiastra.
Put on comfortable shoes and set off into the intensely coloured wilderness. The route starts at the Lake Fiastra dam, in the province of Macerata – an unbelievably turquoise stretch of water. Be sure to dive in for a refreshing dip.
The path through the holm oak forest will provide shelter from the summer heat. After emerging from the greenery, you can look up to admire the beauty of the canyon, whose red spires create an almost unnatural contrast with the blue sky.
You can head back following the same path for a total of 6 kilometres, with an altitude difference of 200 metres, which will take you about 3 hours.
