Civico Museo della Seta Abegg

Overview

Il Museo della seta Abegg, situato in una filanda del Settecento in riva al Lago di Garlate e circondato da gelsi, è stato creato dagli industriali svizzeri Abegg nel 1953 per conservare gli strumenti utilizzati nell’industria serica nel corso dei secoli in Oriente e in Occidente. Donato al Comune di Garlate nel 1976, il Museo espone una vasta collezione di macchine e di utensili destinati a illustrare le principali fasi di produzione della seta, dall’allevamento del baco alla tessitura. Una sezione è dedicata al futuro della seta, in cui vengono presentate le nuove ricerche e le applicazioni scientifiche nel campo biomedico, della cosmesi e nella produzione di nuovi filati. Il Museo dispone inoltre di laboratori interattivi e di percorsi didattici con esperti docenti.
