Overview
Among the final examples of papal nepotism, Palazzo Braschi, designed by Cosimo Morelli, was commissioned by Pope Pius VI (1775 - 1799) as a gift for his nephew Luigi Braschi Onesti.
In the heart of Renaissance Rome, on the site of the 15th-century Palazzo Orsini between Piazza Navona and Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, construction began in 1792. Left partially unfinished, it was sold to the Italian government in 1871.
Since 1952, it has been home to the Museum of Rome. It underwent extensive renovation work before reopening in 2002, with new layouts, themed areas on the second and third floors and temporary exhibitions on the first floor.
