On the left side of the Trinità dei Monti staircase, the historic English Tea Room, founded in 1893 with a capital of 100 pounds by Anna Maria Babington and Isabel Cargill. Babington\'s was founded at Via Due Macelli and immediately after in Piazza di Spagna to offer the English community living in Rome an authentic tea and reading room. The success was remarkable from the beginning, among tourists, diplomats and the beautiful Roman world not used to English tea sold until then only in the pharmacy. Today the tradition continues with a delicious selection of sweets, pastries and tea of course, snacks for lunch and an environment that has kept the atmosphere of that time religiously intact as well as the original furnishings of the time.
