From Monti towards Monte Limbara

From Monti towards Monte Limbara

The cycle route starts at the Monti-Telti railway station, currently in use by the Cagliari-Golfo Aranci line, formerly end of the Monti - Tempio route.

Monti is known for its famous Vermentino di Gallura DOCG, a true local excellence.

It quietly continues along the route of the former Calangianus - Monti railway line, on a track now entirely dedicated to bicycles, except a short stretch on a local road.

A magnificent view, dominated by numerous cork oaks and vineyards, awaits you after a short climb and a hairpin bend. Ascending along the eastern slopes of Mount Limbara, you come to the Piras stop.

The itinerary continues to Vaccileddu. Continuing up to the Rifornitore stop, you will see some of inland Gallura’s most stunning stretches, with granite rocks, strawberry trees, cork oaks and wild olives.

Past the highest point, at about 608 metres, between descent and ascent, proceed to Calangianus, a town famous for its cork production. Continue the route with a visit to the Monti di Deu Archaeological Park, a real Nuragic village. You pass through the picturesque station of Nuchis before arriving in Tempio Pausania, an ancient Roman city with buildings carved out of grey granite and a cathedral, several oratories and the elegant Carmine Theatre.
