Alghero, "capital" of the Riviera del Corallo

Alghero, "capital" of the Riviera del Corallo

It starts in Alghero, called Barceloneta by the Catalan rulers who left their mark on the language and traditions here. Be enchanted by the city centre, admiring the towers, ramparts, beaches and typical cobbled streets.

The itinerary takes you just outside the walls, along Provincial Road 105, one of the most scenic roads on the island, a popular backdrop for car commercials. Vertiginous cliffs alternate with slopes covered with cork and holm oaks, finally leading to the beach of Poglina.

Two climbs lead to Capo Marrargiu, a volcanic cape surrounded by tufa cliffs and coves. You will be immersed in a timeless landscape of Mediterranean scrub: in the northern background Capo Caccia, in front the islet of sa Pagliosa, and to the south the white trachyte cliffs of Bosa. From here you can see the whole gulf and, if you are lucky, spot griffon vultures. It is a wild area with no buildings.

Arrival in Bosa

The route continues downhill for 12 km along the coast overlooking the crystal sea, with rocks that change colour and perfect coves for swimming. You come to Torre Argentina, part of an old system of Spanish defence towers, and a series of coves.

At the end of the descent, you reach Bosa, where brightly coloured houses light up under the sun, while the intense yellow brush forms a brilliant stripe dividing the blue of the sky from that of the sea.
