Castel del Monte: harmony, luxury and elegance

The masterpiece of Mediaeval architecture & UNESCO World Heritage Site

Commissioned by Frederick II of Swabia in 1240 near Santa Maria del Monte, in Apulia, this fortress is a masterpiece of Mediaeval architecture and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its harmonious and perfect forms were influenced by various cultures arriving here from Northern Europe. Its luxurious and refined geometries turn this castle into an evocative and imposing structure. At the time, it was probably intended more as a residence rather than a defensive building. Castel del Monte is visited every year by numerous visitors intrigued by its beauty and majesty.
