The Alchemical Door in Rivodutri: the 17th-century arch that survived a vanished palace
On Via Umberto I in Rivodutri, in the province of Rieti, stands a 17th-century limestone arch that locals still call "Nicolò's gateway." It is all that remains of a Baroque palace that has since disappeared: the alchemical door was its main entrance, and today it opens onto a garden, where the sculptures and decorations speak an esoteric and kabbalistic language.
A vanished palace, a surviving threshold
The palace belonged to the Camiciotti family, who administered public and ecclesiastical properties. Nothing remains of the building itself. What remains is the arch, along with its sculpted decorations, featuring esoteric and kabbalistic themes.
Practical information
The arch, overlooking a garden, is right in the middle of the village, which is about 20 minutes from Rieti by car.
