Castello Orsini-Odescalchi

Overview

Come centro amministrativo e di rappresentanza di importanti famiglie, il Castello di Bracciano narra da sei secoli la sua storia attraverso antiche armi, arredi, dipinti, libri, manoscritti, decorazioni e affreschi. Aprì al pubblico nel 1952 per volontà del principe Livio IV Odescalchi, che oggi rappresenta una realtà dinamica, coniugando la sua vocazione museale con eventi di varia natura.
Le sale del Castello custodiscono una ricca collezione di oggetti d’arte raccolti dal principe Baldassarre Odescalchi a partire dalla seconda metà dell’Ottocento. Amante delle arti e conoscitore raffinato, egli manteneva un forte legame con l’ambiente culturale internazionale e progressista del periodo post-unitario. Il principe, con la sua passione per le arti decorative, diede vita alla fondazione del Museo Artistico Industriale di Roma, e si cimentò anche nella ricostituzione dell’arredo del Castello, disperso durante la dominazione francese. Tra le varie raccolte, la collezione di ceramica è forse quella maggiormente rappresentativa, poiché testimonia l’attenzione dedicata alla maiolica italiana, in particolare quella Cinquecentesca, caratteristica di quel XIX secolo. Busti dei dodici Cesari, una rara clessidra del XVI secolo e un letto siciliano in ferro battuto del Settecento completano la collezione del Castello, voluta dal principe Baldassarre con l’intento di trasformare la sua antica dimora in un vero Museo, dove gli oggetti dialogano con l’architettura che li ospita, rievocando al visitatore il gusto, gli usi e i fasti di un castello rinascimentale.
