Overview
Piano di Lanzo, located within the municipality of San Donato di Ninea in the province of Cosenza, is a plateau 1350 m above sea level on the valley that connects Cozzo del Pellegrino, one of the highest mountains in Calabria, with the Esaro Valley.
A starting
point for numerous treks, this fascinating place offers unique vistas and vistas.
Included in the Special Area of Conservation under the European Commission's Habitats Directive, this territory is subject to measures necessary for the maintenance or restoration of natural habitats and the conservation of plant and animal species. In fact, among the various typical species of the undergrowth, the monumental chestnut and beech forests are home to an autochthonous nucleus of Apennine Roe Deer (C.c.italicus) and the Sinodendron cylindricum, a beetle of the Lucanidae family, an indicator of good environmental conservation.
The presence of limestone and calcareous-dolomitic rocks have given rise to the obvious karst phenomena that characterise the area.
