From 29 October Frantoi Aperti in Umbria. 5 weekends of events and one theme: oil
01 November 2022
1. Tastings and food and wine itineraries in Assisi
Opening the festivities is Assisi con Unto - Eventi a macchia d’olio: featuring oil tastings with experts in the field, as well as conferences, exhibitions and workshops for children.
There is a free visit to the oil mills to experience the excitement of pressing and tasting the oil on bruschetta.
At the Mostra Mercato, in Via San Francesco, at Palazzo Monte Frumentario, one can taste the excellent oils from Assisi and from all over Umbria and the produce of the countryside, from truffles to cured meats, legumes, wine and saffron.
Another option is La Mangiaunta, a gastronomic itinerary in the village of Giano dell'Umbria amidst oil mills, photographic exhibitions on centuries-old olive trees, sweet and savoury show cooking and plenty of good music.
On 1 November, don't miss the Olio Trekking della Fascia Olivata, to get to know an area rich in natural and artistic beauty, through a recreational walk among typical products.
2. Challenge of the last photo in Amelia on 5 and 6 November
For the second weekend, Frantoi Aperti moves to Amelia, in the province of Terni, with @merinOlio, a festival of oil and the rural landscape of the Amerini hills, rich in tastings.
On the same weekend, you can choose to head to Assisi and join 'UNTO passeggiate di piacere nei castelli e nel territorio’ (UNTO a pleasure walk in the castles and in the territory), a guided excursion among the town's historical monuments and farms, for real walks of pleasure and taste.
Then, if you are a skilled photographer, take part in the Fotolio competition - Take a photo at the olive mill and share it. All you have to do is go to the Gradassi oil mill in Campello sul Clitunno (PG), on Saturday 5 November, at 10 am, take a snapshot and share it on the oil mill's Facebook page by 24 November. The photo that receives the most likes will be acknowledged on Sunday 27 November at the oil mill, with a gift basket.
3. On 12 and 13 November, there are many options
In Arrone (TR) there is Amor d'olio, a journey through food, nature and the culture of oil.
In Campello sul Clitunno (PG) one can take part in the Festa dei Frantoi e dei Castelli (Feast of the Presses and Castles), tasting the very high quality of extra virgin olive oil from fertile olive groves on the hillsides, the same ones that surround majestic castles, and at the same time, enjoying incomparable views.
The edition of Frantoi aperti in Umbria 2022 also caters for children: in Magione (PG) there is Evo Kids, an exciting tour of magical discovery of the production chain of Extra Virgin Olive oil, among facilities and machinery, with a snack area, workshops and shows.
4. 19 and 20 November, cycling among the olive trees in Foligno
An educational walk among the olive trees, with games and activities for children: this is a day in the olive groves in Foligno, where you can watch the Antico Frantoio Petesse (in operation since 1850) in action and taste the organic oil produced by the company itself on bruschetta, alongside cured meats, cheeses and other delicacies.
There will also be an opportunity for cycling enthusiasts: on 20 November there will be a beautiful bike ride through the Castelli della Fascia Olivata in Campello sul Clitunno, a marvellous ride through the woods and among the olive trees, organised by the Foligno Fiab.
The new feature of the 2022 edition of Frantoi Aperti will be a series of e-bike appointments to promote sustainable mobility, including stops and tastings.
And, as every Sunday, don't miss the appointment with the Brunch Tour with music in special places in Umbria.
5. Olio a fumetti on 26 and 27 November
In the wake of previous Sundays, the last day of Frantoi Aperti will also feature the Olio a fumetti e DJ Set - Live drawing in the oil mills, an innovative collaboration between the comics industry and the companies involved in oil production.
In the oil mills, transformed into cultural workshops, cartoonists will draw their creations live, accompanied by music and aperitifs. As always, children will also have a place, thanks to the Olio a fumetti for KIDS experiment, a drawing workshop, complete with bread and freshly pressed oil for snacking.
Finally, thanks to a selection of the best Umbrian wine shops and restaurants, visitors will be able to taste high-quality products and, of course, a rich selection of e.v.o. oils made in Umbria, while also taking part in the travelling cooking shows of some of the chefs of the Umbrian #EVOOAmbassador - Testimonials of unique oils circuit.
Umbria and oil is a timeless love story to be discovered, which, thanks to the annual editions of Frantoi Aperti, is renewed through experiences, workshops, tastings and much more.
