Overview
The magnificent Italianate garden dedicated to Giulia d'Avalos, wife of the Spanish Viceroy Marcantonio Colonna, was designed in 1777 by Nicolò Palma. The geometry of the avenues built according to diagonals, medians and circles concentric to the square plan is unique. The central square features four large niches, designed by Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda, and the fountain with a dodecahedron with sundials in the centre supported by an atlas. The avenues are lined with busts of illustrious personalities, while at the end of the central avenue is a fountain with a marble statue of the Genius of Palermo by Ignazio Marabitti from the 18th century.
