Overview
The Enna Holy Week is one of the most engaging and scenic Easter celebrations in the world. The event blends spirituality, identity, and collective memory, preserving rites handed down over the centuries, dating back to Spanish rule. From 29 March to 5 April 2026, over 2,500 confraternity members, dressed in traditional costumes and wearing lowered visors, will parade through the city's streets, creating a spectacle unique in its intensity and symbolic value. During the week, the 16 historical confraternities prepare sacred objects and religious symbols kept in their respective churches. The confraternity flags are kept furled as a sign of mourning from Palm Sunday to Good Friday. The main processions take place on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, amidst silence, torches, songs and the slow sounds of the Enna town band. On Good Friday, only the processional cross, known as "The Incarnation", is carried uncovered. The entire city participates: street traffic is limited, a shuttle service runs from Enna Bassa to the historic centre, and public lighting is replaced by torches, creating a mystical, intense atmosphere. Holy Week in Enna is not only a religious celebration but also a profound expression of community and belonging, capable of thrilling anyone who attends, whether believer or visitor.
