During Holy Week, Caltanissetta is transformed into a large urban theatre in which faith, tradition and history come together in one of Sicily's most heartfelt Easter rites.
From 29 March to 5 April 2026, the city will welcome pilgrims, tourists, and worshippers for a week of intense spirituality, marked by solemn processions, ancient rituals, historical re-enactments, and moments of heartfelt participation by the local community.
The celebrations, handed down through the centuries, involve confraternity groups, participants in period costume, life-size statues, musical bands, and the entire local community. Among the most eagerly awaited moments in recent years are the Scinnenza (the Deposition from the Cross), the Procession of the Vare, the parade of the Real Maestranza, the Varicedde, and the Black Christ, an icon held in deep veneration by the city.
The official 2026 programme is still being finalised, but once again this year Holy Week in Caltanissetta will offer a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in a religious and cultural tradition that spans the centuries and renews the local community's sense of belonging.
