The Via Romea Strata enters Lazio from Tuscany near Centeno and then heads towards Acquapendente. The route is mostly on secondary roads and country lanes, crossing the rolling hills of the Val di Paglia, a Mediterranean valley that offers rural views and glimpses of peaceful nature with vineyards, fields and olive groves.
During this stretch, the route follows historic sections of an ancient road (corresponding to portions of the former Via Cassia), alternating between sections on a dirt surface and short stretches on a tarmac road. The arrival in Acquapendente, with its famous Church of the Holy Sepulchre, marks an important arrival point for many pilgrims before continuing towards Rome.
This stretch is pleasant from a naturalistic and historical-landscape point of view, with an atmosphere of a slow walk through small villages and countryside, ideal for those who experience the journey as one of reflection and discovery.
