The route starts at Domodossola station, close to the Swizz border. Taking the cy-cle path along the River Toce, through groves and beautiful clearings, you come to Villadossola, then Piedimulera, with its majestic Torre Ferrerio.

Continue to the picturesque village of Vogogna, fortified centre and home to the Val Grande National Park.

From the mediaeval centre of Vogogna, the route continues through meadows and cultivated fields to the Bosco Tenso Nature Reserve.

Pass the tip of Migiandone, where a large square with two cannons marks the be-ginning of the historic 'Cadorna Line', a WWI military fortification system built to de-fend Italy's northern border. From here, take the cycle path to Ornavasso. A stop at the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Boden and the Marble Quarry is a must.

The itinerary continues to the Fondotoce reed beds, part of a Nature Reserve UNESCO MAB established to preserve them. Continue along the river’s left bank until you reach the Casa della Resistenza, a memorial of the liberation struggle and its values.

For those who wish, a cycle path leads to Verbania Pallanza, on Lago Maggiore, the largest pre-alpine lake of glacial origin.

From Verbania Pallanza, you can return along the Ciclovia del Toce by train.
