The Valtellina Path offers a timeless journey immersed in the green of nature, embraced by the Rhaetian Alps, discovering small embedded villages, the scenic wonders of the valley floor and the proximity to one of the longest rivers in Italy. An ideal green-way for everyone, easily practicable by bicycle thanks to the gentle slopes.

From Colico to Sondrio

Departing from Colico, at the northern end of Lake Como, you pass through the lively town of Morbegno, at the confluence of the Bitto valleys.

Don't forget to visit Sondrio, major economic hub of Valtellina, a corridor between the north and south of the Alps, as well as home to sanctuaries and fine wines: don't miss Castello Masegra, with balcony offering panoramic views of the old town.

Day 2

From Tirano to Bormio

From Tirano to Bormio

The second section of the cycle path begins in Tirano, the start of the legendary Bernina Red Train, a jewel of the Rhaetian Railway that became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008.

Tirano, at the centre of Valtellina is a must-see not only because its strategic location makes it ideal for many excursions, but also because of the characteristic old town centre enclosed by walls built by Ludovico il Moro, its excellent food and wine specialities, the Grosio Rock Engravings Park, and its imposing castle.

Finally, head to Bormio, a renowned tourist resort, relax at Bormio Terme and be enchanted by the Stelvio National Park, Italy's largest park in the heart of the central Alps.
