Overview
Adjoining the latomia del Paradiso, although much smaller, this quarry is the oldest from the Greek period and is all a citrus garden, with a characteristic capital L shape and a tall rock pillar in the centre. An archway cut into the rocky diaphragm connects it with the latomia of Santa Venera, transformed into a charming garden. In the succession of Greek, Roman and Christian tombs, and Byzantine buildings, with their important artistic testimonies, you can trace the passage of time in Syracuse's history. A number of votive niches for the worship of the heroic dead are carved into the high vertical walls.
