The oldest route of the Roman road, having crossed Macerata and reached the cathedral of San Giuliano, descended towards Porta Duomo, from the village of Fosse it ran alongside the church of Santa Maria della Pace, then to the source of Quercia, up to the Madonna del Monte.

The deviation for Villa Potenza dates back to at least 1645: both roads rejoined at Sambucheto di Montecassiano. From here to Recanati, the route has never undergone significant changes.

All was different in the last stretch: at first you entered the Via Brecciarum, but in the first half of the 15th century, due to the hard climb to the Sanctuary, the easier Via Vallis Cerri was preferred. The route of the Via Monticellorum is still visible today: from the north of Recanati towards the Musone valley, it rejoined Via delle Brecce.

More recently, it is the road currently in use to travel to Loreto, commissioned by Clemente VII and entrusted to Antonio da Sangallo: traveled in 1539 by Paul III, it was completed in 1588 by the governor Geronimo Gabuzio. Slightly brought back towards the sea at the beginning of the 17th century, it now leads to Piazza della Madonna in Loreto.
